What has been bothering is "ideal." with porous absorbers the norm is to aim for 4 times the impedance of air. Even there is a range of absorption. None of it is ideal because there is no ideal.

The sound wave path is through the absorbent material, the intentional gap, reflected off the wall/ceiling, back through the intentional gap and finally through the absorbent material again. Glad you enjoy it. Another classic is Acoustics by Beranek. First published in 1954 then reprinted 1996. Not a new edition, REPRINTED!

Your list of usefull documents is great. A suggested addition is Schultz. It provides great information on perforated panels This is of particular interest to people wanting to retain high end ambience in a space (and are not terrified of mathematics). It still has some pretty drawings and diagrams....
