It's "fun" isn't it? (Not!)
At least you have the pneumatic gun.... imagine if you were trying to do all that by hand-squeezing a manual caulking gun.
But it is looking pretty good!

Pneumatic caulking gun acquired. Also, pneumatic caulking gun explosion. Pressure was a tad too high Ooops! Yup, you don't need a lot of pressure. The pressure might need adjusting, depending on the size of the hole you cut in the nozzle, and maybe the type of caulk too, but if the tube exp...

These are the details that matter! :thu: So true! With studio design and construction, as the saying goes: "the devil is very much in the details!". Speaking of which, if you haven't already done so then buy or rent a pneumatic caulking gun and compressor. You'll be sooooo glad you did! S...

So in my design thread I said I'd hoped for a $50k budget and Stuart said it would be more. ..... Im definitely going to hit $100k before all is said and done. Sounds about right! Sadly... I wish I would have been wrong about that, but Murphy always gets you! The best equation I've found so far for...

That's a start, but you should really set up a full-range system and play typical full-range rock music to do your testing. If you test with just a bass, then you are only testing a very small part of the spectrum, and in a region where ears aren't even that sensitive (and isolation is generally ter...

The Concrete was laid 4/5 months before the insulation was then stored on it, so I would have thought it would have cured. Concrete never really cures 100%. The process is called "hydration", and continues for years, even decades (according to some). After a couple of days, it's good to w...

Hi there Almavague, and Welcome to the forum! :thu: The first thing I'd suggest that you do is to find out how much isolation you are getting right now (in decibels), from the current structure, then figure out how much isolation you need in order to not disturb the neighbors (as well as not having ...

:thu: I'll second Glenn's advice on the backer rod and caulk, and stress that's for EACH layer, just like Glenn said. As each layer goes up, put the backer rod and caulk. Put a shim under the drywall sheet to raise it off the floor by the right amount, then pull the shim once you have the drywall at...

Don't glue it! The procedure you outline is fine.
What sheathing do you have there, and is it bare (eg, plywood, MDF, OSB...)? If so, you could consider using Green Glue in there. That would be fine.

That's rather disappointing! It's hard to say if it could have due to the stacked mineral wool, but the "damp" pattern does seem to roughly match the locations where the packages were, from what I can see, so I guess it is a possibility. Was there any moisture in or on the packages when yo...

Bought the 'pro expanding foam gun nozzle and No Nonsense expanding foam' and regretted it. Advice: the No Nonsense expanding foam is terrible. go with another brand. Ending up using silly amounts of silicon to fill gaps Good advice! Apart from being messy and not-so-nonsense-free(!), expanding pol...

Vapour barrier - where should it be installed??
General rule of thumb is that the WATER barrier goes on the exterior wall, just under the outer cladding, and the VAPOR barrier goes on the warmest side of the wall, up against the sheathing. You can have only one water barrier, and only one vapor barrier, so you would need to remove the existing on...

If you ever wanted a guided tour through Abbey Road studios, here's your chance! Abbey-Road-front-entrance.jpg I just came across this video from a few days ago, of a guy who managed to do exactly that: Take a tour through some of the iconic rooms and iconic gear in Abbey Road, with numerous details...
