Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

Hi all, Sorry for the delay, I've just had nothing to report as have been working  Back into the build now and hope to have it all done over the next few weeks. Thanks for the reply Stuart, I'll address a few of your points below: 2766 Don't forget to take into account that simply building the...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

I just readjusted the angle of the cloud to be a lot steeper and re-measured, but it hasn't made a lot of difference.

This leads me to think the issue is somehow related to the front absorber...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

2674 I think the contrary might be true. Without the hard backing the cloud will deal fine with the highs via absorbption. The hard backing is there to reflect the lows away from the mix position. Your cloud may well be working as it should be. Have you looked at the impulse charts? They are amazin...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

2672 Did you take a measurement with superchunks and broadband absorber but without the hard back on the cloud? Unfortunately not :( I built both in one day and measured at the end. I assumed hard backing the cloud would mostly help with first reflections of higher frequencies and not do much to th...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

Thanks Eric and Jennifer for checking in. I've made some progress with mixed results :? I've built the superchunks, put a broadband absorber between them, and hard backed my existing cloud. Superchunks 90cm wide 60cm deep, 40kg/m3 rockwool. 20200926_182913.jpg Broadband Absorber 90cm wide 20cm deep ...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

Hi all, Here's a rough placement for the hangers. How's this look? Hangers.jpg I've noticed most designs have the hangers perpendicular to the speakers like this. I assume this is for a reason. From what I've read it seems important that they are at an angle to the boundary walls, but I'm not sure i...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

Hi all, First things first - I've solved the phase 9.5k dip issue! - And it's been a big lesson in using REW and being PRECISE with MIC PLACEMENT! I'll just illustrate with a few screenshots: Mic Centred.jpg 1 inch off-centre.jpg 1 inch off centre.jpg That's a 10+db dip and the only difference betwe...

Regarding material for hangers, these are the specs: Homasote Pinnacle Density: 416-448 kg/m³ Thickness: 13mm Size: 2440mm x 1220mm Weight: 14 kg/panel I found this which is a very close match Sundeala K board Density: 500 kg/m³ Thickness: 9 mm Size: 2400 x 1200 mm Weight: 13.54 kg/panel https://she...

2531 More. Just more. Like, “this insulation goes to 11” Got it! I plan on superchunks floor to ceilng in front corners with a 90cm width (90x60x60), and hangers, but I still can't find what materials to make the hangers from in the UK. I can't find a supplier of Homasote or anything similar ...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

2522 Did it end sounding better being symmetric between side walls? Yes I think so! Hard to tell by ear when there's a 15 minute break to move speakers around between A and B. It's definitely not worse and I think the REW data looks better. Also, there's a psychological comfort in being in the acou...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

Hi all, I think the phase cancellation was from my second monitor, which is normally behind the speakers, but with the speakers in the corners it was between the speakers and the mic, to make things worse it was angled off to the side in position that could reflect sound better. I've taken it away n...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

2505 My guess is it is a phase cancellation from the front wall reflection (probably from the speaker furthest from the front wall). Ahha!! I think you are on to it here. Below are a bunch of screenshots until you can dip into the mdat 'Sym' is original position and 'Corner' is the corner position ...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

2499 I put your measurements into Sketchup, traced side walls lines till they meet, measured the angle, which is about 11.5º, and traced a line al 5.75º, the half of them both. Then I took measurements from right side wall to this centre line, and that is your new center. Amazing, thank you! 2494 D...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

2496 Hey civvie, I've been thinking, while looking at the last measurements: what if you twist your desk and monitors a little, in order to end up centered between side walls, regardless front and back walls? I don't really know how much difference could it make, but it sure will be interesting to ...

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

2491 First thing that springs to mind is the null on the left around 61Hz. That is a nightmare, and must really mess with the imaging and perceived level of crucial elements like the resonance of the kick drum. In the absence of photos of the measured setup it is difficult to guess at the cause, bu...
