Tracking Room Ceiling Treatment

What a pain in the arse. The only 9" pink around here had paper (vapor barrier) facing, so I figured I'd just take it off, as pictured. Having done this without being able to staple it up (pre-hanger mesh), I can't help but wonder what effect it would have to leave the kraft facing on and then ...

R30 it is. Thanks for the clarification, Glenn!

Intriguing that compressed pink eats lows better than rockwool, I wouldn't have guessed that.

-Cheers!

Also, a tidbit of misunderstanding on my behalf... 5825 so layering from the top down on ceiling: subfloor R-19 9" (~225mm) ) (pink stuff) 3in (75mm) rockwool retention wire/strap/mesh cloth (optional) panels / slats ...just to clarify something before moving on, I think r19 is 6"ish and r...

Great response, Glenn, you nailed it. Apparently, I couldn't 'decipher' the simple clarity of your initial response. no they would be expected to perform like a cloud - attenuate reflections and sound levels. I visualized the ceiling more as a cloud, but used the term 'treatment', as you pointed out...

5825 depending on the joists overhead - say 2x10 - i might use R-19 (200mm) against the subfloor, compacted down by a layer of 3in (75mm) rockwool. using packing straps, chicken wire, insulation mesh etc across the joists to hold it in. then cover with cloth. then if you need MF and HF support you ...

...yes, from Stuart's 'Inside-Out Ceiling" thread. "The insulation is then installed in the empty bays under the modules, as part of the acoustic treatment for the room, with fabric below that to create the final visual ceiling for the room. The blue "tape" visible here is actual...

Oh my, how the years go by. I have finally achieved the isolation I've worked so hard for. It seems that it is time to pretty up the place, and to make it function the way I want it to. Enter acoustical treatment. I recall from a long time ago, Stuart (I believe...) mentioning that it was feasible t...

Studio HVAC: All about mini-split systems, HRV's and ERV's.

Thanks for the quick reply, Starlight, I have in fact scoured your thread and used it as a reference for a couple things already. Without hijacking this amazing thread, I'll keep it short and say, that was exactly what I was looking for. I guess I didn't look close enough at your baffles to realize ...

Studio HVAC: All about mini-split systems, HRV's and ERV's.

Happy Friday all! I have a question regarding HVAC design, and am curious if there's any consensus on utilizing the ceiling joist/rafter bay (2- 2x12"s & subfloor/wood flooring above) as part of the outer leaf baffle/silencer, or would it be measurably better to build all four individual B/...

How To/Best Way to Run Conduit (electric/audio wire) Through 2 Leaf Walls?

3181 If it is of any interest, you can see my cables in the first 4 photos in post 41 in my studio build, here , where you can see I used a floppy plastic conduit (as opposed to the solid plastic conduit that we put on walls). All the cables come through the outer wall together. All but three cable...

How To/Best Way to Run Conduit (electric/audio wire) Through 2 Leaf Walls?

This is not the perfect photo but I can use it to explain. Imagine the two joists are the two walls. The green cable is very loose. If one of the walls is excited (as in sound excites a wall) then the cable will not transfer much if any of the sound to the other wall. Remember the children's teleph...

How To/Best Way to Run Conduit (electric/audio wire) Through 2 Leaf Walls?

3171 Whenever you're running conduit from leaf to leaf, you want to decouple the conduit at some point in the chain so you're not creating a flanking path from leaf to leaf. There might be a picture of this in the reference thread, but I know there are pictures of this in other peoples build thread...

How To/Best Way to Run Conduit (electric/audio wire) Through 2 Leaf Walls?

I'm not sure this is correct: the holes made for cables (think coax here) coming into your house are usually caulked after the cable is run, and I've never seen any of those fail. If in doubt, check the label on the caulk. That is a good point, though I am sure, of course, that there must be certai...

How To/Best Way to Run Conduit (electric/audio wire) Through 2 Leaf Walls?

3154 Hi I have several cables that need to go from outer leaf to inner leaf in my build: power and Ethernet armoured cables, fan power, lights on outside of building and power socket on outside building. For what it’s worth, I’ve just drilled holes that are slightly bigger than each cable and then ...

Great, Paul, thank you so much for a quick reply, names/terminologies are the bread and butter of most any inquiry, aren't they? 8-) ...I'll look into those that you mentioned. Also, price isn't too much of a factor, as this is certainly a yearslong project, haha. So, just to confirm, When you say,&...
