Sono Flex Duct: Snake Oil or the Real Deal?

4165 https://www.decinternational.com/specifications/uk/sonodec_25.pdf Thanks Bert. The only part I am struggling to understand in all of this is how airborne sound from the control room or live room doesn't just go straight through the jacket of the flex duct? Yes, I know you could use a baffle, o...

Sono Flex Duct: Snake Oil or the Real Deal?

Dear Paul, you are not very well informed or educated on this. Stuart seems to be lost so I think people interested in these matters should seek an other forum.

Help with acoustics in my floating room.

I don't think a diffuser adds much to a room exept from a solid combfilter, but as everybody and his grandma has these things in the studio I can as well shut up :D

Basement studio/drum room advice needed

3062 What other info do you want? A (eventually) soffited Sonodec needs to fullfill the same conditions as a silencer box (without the irrelevant bends). That's all that is to it. Make your silly baffle boxes if you want but don't confuse other people :-). That's not really very helpful. Again, the...

Basement studio/drum room advice needed

3059 I don't say they don't work at all. All I say is that flex duct if dimensioned properly works as well and is even better for small spaces. In a Gearslutz thread on baffle boxes this was brougth up by a Belgian studio owner who was adviced by Desart, and it was confirmed by Northwards. Stuart w...

Basement studio/drum room advice needed

3036 A properly isolated flex duct works fine. Baffle boxes are a bit of a urban myth, they look logical but in reality they are complex and have flaws. That's a pretty bold claim, especially since most of the studio designers/builders I've come across all use silencer boxes in some form or another...

Basement studio/drum room advice needed

2972 Hi I’m not sure whether there’s any acoustic difference between using flex or otherwise, I guess that comes down to where you need it to run. Cheers Gareth A properly isolated flex duct works fine. Baffle boxes are a bit of a urban myth, they look logical but in reality they are complex and ha...

3020 Like you, Paul, I have read a lot and cannot give a definitive answer. This is where Andre (avare) excels because A, he knows this stuff, and B, he would point you to a technical book or PDF that demonstrates the point. Are you trying to find an answer for a specific situation or is this just ...

969 That's a great explanation, thanks Stuart. Something else I've pondered about Green Glue is: does the use of screws through all layers reduce the amount of relative sliding possible, and therefore reduce the viscolelastic effect? Of course the screws are necessary as Green Glue isn't actually g...

Re: Private studio in Slovakia

Thanks.

I guess you don't need permits etc.
Over here it wouldn't be so easy to get such a project on the rails :) .

Re: Private studio in Slovakia

Could you elaborate on why you choose for this construction?
So how did you determine the isolation needs, and how did you calculate all this?
I suppose it's all substantiated with gory math and stuff? :D
