Private studio in Slovakia

Greetings Starlight, feel free to show us what is happening with your wife's half of the building. I think I mentioned her studio is now a garage conversion. It's nearly done: Windows went in last week; drywall mud, tape, and sand starting on 24 May (my rotator cuff tear and my wife's wrist issues p...

Greetings Gareth,

My current thinking is a magnetic latch like you get in sideboard type cupboards - found some with a 5kg force (no idea if that’s enough!).

You could fashion your own strong magnetic catches with a small rare earth magnet and a small piece of steel.

All the best,

Paul

The other test was a reference track, Peter Frampton's "Show Me The Way".

Studio version or the now-classic version from "Frampton Comes Alive"????

Greetings Starlight, One good suggestion I saw was to to lay rags on their own out flat on something like a paving slab. Agreed. My wife is an artist and puts linseed-oiled rags in a small galvanized metal trashcan. It has a lid and can be stored outside regardless of the elements. All the best, Paul

To go with what I thought looked like bass reflex bins these remind me of PA horns. I reckon you are building a seekrit in-wall PA system.

Actually, Jennifer is having one over on all of us: it's not a studio, it's a nightclub.

Designing My Soffit Mounts

Greetings, If you can, go to a timber merchants and inspect the timber yourself before you buy. Agreed. We are lucky as our contractor always uses the same lumber yard, and they pick the best boards for him (clearly a win-win for everyone involved). Even if we're doing the bulk of a project ourselve...

Small Sound Post *Edit* Rooms - And Designing with Modules

I agree with Jennifer, I think Gareth is correct. Given the scope of your plan, a "test run" is certainly worthwhile. If it works, you've got one module done, and if it doesn't, you'll be able to sort out the issues (hopefully).

All the best,

Paul

from RyanC over on GS - he buys sorbothane hempispheres that are rated for heavier work and then puts weights on top of his monitors until the sorbothane has a good degree of compression.

Yes, I read that too. Seems like a really sensible approach.

Greetings Gareth, You have been quite productive indeed!!! I’m knackered - not used to all this physical work!! I know what you mean. We are working on my wife's art studio, and it's basically every other day to allow our bodies to recover. We're not as young as we used to be... Oh and whoever it wa...

Building ~400 square foot backyard studio

Greetings martybones, I don't have a massive budget Can you be more specific? Because... HVAC will add a significant expense ($1000s) and the small bathroom could add quite a bit too, particularly if you need to tap into the main drain. Search the forum for "HVAC" and "ventilation&quo...

Drum room/studio basement build

I need a plan to get some assistance then...

Yes, or be prepared to make an orthopedic surgeon's next vacation home payment.

If you are going to try it yourself, remember Peter Griffin's (misguided) advice: "Lift with your back and twist."
