Garden mix room near Nottingham, UK

3098 I bought an pneumatic staple gun to be used with my air compressor. It was like $25, and it has been absolutely amazing. If you have an air compressor already, this is a must have. I use it all the time. Absolutely agree. Air tools rule :) You can get a cheap 1gal compressor that will run a br...

Studio Build: Garage Conversion in Los Angeles

I just did mine ... used Weldbond glue. It's a white glue (like wood glue), but good for a wide range of materials. I thinned it out a bit with water, then brushed on, and stuck the duct line. put weight on it for ~60 minutes, and it's on there good. I did use staples in a couple spots ... works ok,...

Basement studio/drum room advice needed

Because I haven't played my drums in a couple months and was bored, I set up the kick and snare and took some measurements for kicks. Room is currently framed, with drywall completed on 2 walls only. Ceiling and other 2 walls are just framed (so, basically not there lol). - 55 db max in room ambient...

Basement studio/drum room advice needed

My plan at this point is to use a single box on the outer leaf, and flex duct from the box through the inner leaf. I think this will provide sufficient isolation based on my needs. Will update the thread with final drawings, and post some in-progress pics. We've finished the framing!

Ok, good points about the caulk not acting as decouple. So, let's replace the joining duct with a flex duct. That makes sense. Let's look at these 2 diagrams. Here is the typical 2 leaf wall/ceiling, with baffle box on each leaf, and a flex duct joining them: example-baffle1.jpg Can we agree that th...

Basement studio/drum room advice needed

I think I understand, but let's walk through it: - Baffles are needed on both sides (ie, on the inner and outer leaf) - inner baffle and outer baffle must be decoupled from each other - the boxes mass should match the leaf mass - flow should slow down at the exit into the room Now I don't recall rea...

Here is the latest revision. I think this is basically the final layout and design. The HVAC meets the needs for air supply, and the noise should be fairly well contained, or at least as best as can be given the goals and what I'm willing to compromise on. HVAC overall layout HVAC-3.jpg Return baffl...

2970 Stuart usually advocates one at the end of each pathway, so you need to move one of yours to the outside end of the air ducting rather than having them so close, if that makes sense?!! Yup, makes a lot of sense. I can't move it to the start of the run, but I can give a few feet of separation. ...

Basement studio/drum room advice needed

Ok, back to this thread. Working through some baffle box designs. based on input, here is where I'm at: 2leaf-box2.jpg I'm limited in the space I have (10 1/4" between joists, and only 7 1/4" deep), so this is definitely a compromise. I can't really make the baffles bigger or my cross sect...

Exterior block wall options

2962 Your question about the air gap seems to be a continuation of your other topics, Contrary information? and Basement studio/drum room advice needed , where you have plenty of helpful advice from Jag94 and others. If your final drawing, version 2, in the latter topic is still correct then the ga...

Exterior block wall options

Starting construction soon ... one last decision to make. Given everything else being equal, which of these 2 wall designs would be the better option? Is the 1" air (pink stuff) just basically a waste of space, and would the single leaf design be similar, or even better? What about the concrete...

Where to find the REAL SketchUp

Hint: In case you're unaware, you can save your models as older versions ... and the 2017 free version works perfectly (to date). I don't think it has a time bomb in it, but who knows? Anyway, if you have a purchased newer version, simple make sure to archive ALL you models and save as 2017 version ...

A lot more reading, and lot more thinking ... here is version 2:

- Decouple the inside framing from the joists
- "inside-out" walls on block walls, with air gap (comments on this? Should I add loose pink stuff?)
