Re: New build small size high isolation project

... our silencers ... will be over 300kg each... some plans are being formulated to lift the beasts into the ceiling void... 300kg is the weight of a mid-sized grand piano. That is heavy! I was about to suggest using a plasterboard lift as I bought one and reckon it will do for lifting the baffle b...

Re: New build small size high isolation project

Well Hello, Just before Christmas, against all English weather odds and possibly manufacturers specification, we got the roof water proofing on. It involved the tarp being on and off, blowtorch being used to dry the concrete and some very resilient help! F8DBA12E-258E-45B7-9A4B-0ED385276BE1.jpeg Aft...

Re: Green Glue in the UK

Good luck! I used the following applicator by the way. At £16.77 it is quite a bit cheaper than the official one; https://www.toolstation.com/rotating-sealant-gun/p74611 Cheers, Jennifer Thanks yea I've got a few kicking about...tempted to get a pneumatic assisted one, but I don't actually think I'...

Re: SHORT Book List

Your commentary on Rose was interesting. It is amazing as a short (dare I write pithy) document on the acoustics of one the largest groups involved with acoustics Ahhh! THAT one! I had that filed under "BBC Engineering Guide" for some reason, and without the author. No wonder I couldn't f...

Re: Private studio in Slovakia

So great to see the progress!

What kind of blocks are they? Are they solid or hollow core?

Yea over here the acoustic foam is blue, soudal make it I think...as well as others I’m sure... very low expansion and flexible when cured.

Re: New build small size high isolation project

Hi All, Bit of a slow week, now lost all my helpers : ) on your own things take longer but also are mentally more difficult without other people to bounce off! Skimmed the 3 walls that may be partially seen, cut the section of concrete from the corridor that was causing a flanking path (no one spott...

Re: New build small size high isolation project

Hi All, Been quite a tricky couple of weeks as the cool weather and lack of natural air flow in the building has meant the internal render has taken ages to set up...also more than half of it is on tanking which means there is no natural suction to bond it to the masonry... Basically I’ve been out m...

Re: New Studio Build Underway

Wow nice build, look forward to the updates! Yes the contractor relationship is tricky. He should have spent time to understand the fundamentals of studio construction. There is a fair bit of faffing about that you wouldn’t be used to. Put simply, the normal mode of operation is: crack on. With stud...

Re: New build small size high isolation project

Hi All, As we’re rendering...we’re using a One Coat Render with mesh embedded... I’m wondering about finishes. I had thought, plaster for the inside of the studio and masonry paint on the corridor. I have been thinking about thin coat acrylic render (corse is 1.8mm thick colour through render). It’s...

Re: New build small size high isolation project

Hi All, What a week, quite tight for timings! The concrete contractors used a polymer modified crete which is designed not to need floating and is self flattening and levelling to an extent...twice the price of normal crete pkus pump amd their labour to lay, but the finish looks decent, much better ...

Re: New build small size high isolation project

Spoke with the contractor, he said rebar or mesh would make their job tricky...not sure why but there you go! We were chatting through the options and thought using underfloor heating insulation clips would work but they’re only for 15mm pipe, he suggested tape would work to fit it down to the Membr...
