My horror studio measurements
Follow up: I just took a quick look at the REW data, and it seems you had the levels too high. Around 95 dB, and there is some distortion in the lower frequencies, probably from clipping. Are you sure you had your sound level meter set to "C" weighting when you did the calibration? If you ...

I think Now I've uploaded archives correctly Great! I downloaded the REW file, and I'll take a look at that as soon as I can. One thing I did notice from your rough sketch, is that the room is nearly square, so there are likely some room modes that coincide with each other, or nearly coincide. Also...

Hi Trevor, and a BIG welcome to you! :D So glad you found the forum, and signed up. :thu: Wow! I figure it's been maybe 8 years or so since we last connected, when you were working on the design for the original studio. It's a pity that never happened, because the design was getting to be quite good...

1846 Would the speaker be on the floor or raised a bit? That depends on which instrument you are trying to simulate. For example, if you wanted to see how a drum kit might sound, then set the speaker on a low stool, similar to a drummer's "throne", since that's roughly where the acoustic ...

QSC K12 Those will be fine! Great speakers, by the way. I have used that QSC line of speakers (K8 / K10 / K12) in a few installed-sound systems, with great success. I love them! Small, but powerful, and very clean, smooth sound. And I do like the wide dispersion in vertical and horizontal. Reasonab...

New Control Room in Italy
Wow Stuart, it's awesome how close the prediction was! Last week I took some measurements at my temporary studio, at home (until COVID19 allow us going out to work again) and the prediction isn't that close. But I'm amazed how it is in this case! It's a prove that it works. There could be many reas...

1838 Hi Stuart. Thanks for your advice! ... I ordered this mic Screen Shot 2020-07-02 at 6.40.39 PM.pngI have an XLR to USB adapter so I can plug the Dayton mic into my computer. Can I use my headphone output on my computer for the test signals? You sure can! That will work fine. Just make sure tha...

New Control Room in Italy
As promised, here is some REW data from Lucio's place: Lucio did some testing in the original, larger room, then again in the shorter room, after building the partition wall at the back. The differences in modal response are rather interesting, and perfectly illustrate how theory and prediction work...

1797 Greetings all, Somewhere Soundman2020 has posted how to measure with REW. https://johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21122 All the best, Paul Here's the more up-to-date version, that reflects some big changes in the REW interface: How to calibrate and use REW to test and tune your ...

Wow! It's looking pretty good in there, Howie! :thu: OK, about REW and live rooms / rehearsal rooms / tracking rooms. Yes and no. :) Yes, it is worth doing REW tests! No, you can't do it the same way as you do a control room, and no, there's no "correct" response for such a room. Unlike a ...

Server Crash--- Now Fixed
Ooops! We had a server crash early this morning (July 1)... but we didn't lose anything on the forum: it was just out of action for a couple of hours. So if you tried to connect over the last few hours, and could not, that was the reason. But it is fixed now! The server is up and running again. :yah...

That's a great image of how French Cleats work! Thanks for posting that. A good way of doing that with acoustic panels hanging on the wall is to make the cleats such that you can slide the device a bit to the left or right, after it is in place, to allow for some adjustment in position. - Stuart -

recall someone recommending these be attached with the small headless pins / nails joiners use. No idea what these are called sorry I think you mean "finishing nails" or "brads". I was thinking that too already. But anyway I was wondering how some pro studios get the cloth stret...

Welcome to the forum Lucio! It's great to see that you started your thread! As soon as I can, I'll add some of those REW graphs, to show some of the effects you mentioned.. as well as the typical response of an empty room! and must necessarily let you know that it is really difficult for me to write...
