Home recording studio in the attic.

4056 Maybe it would help to put a 10 cm panel on the chimney at head height, monitors? It is certainly worth trying! Did you mean the keyboard under the Pink Floyd flag? Ahhh! It's a keyboard! OK. I thought it was a side table. It would still b worth doing a test without that in the room, to see if...

Let's review my room

Treatment for (slightly) odd shaped mix room

In this case is it not true that the room volume stays the same and my 'soffits' are just like huge speaker enclosures? That's true, yes... but ANY large object in the room will change the acoustic response. It isn't just about the air volume in the room, but rather about surfaces, reflection, abso...

I'm wondering the same thing! Any progress with the planning and initial design?

Feasibility of Isolating Studio Above Attached Garage

3499 I figured I would update a few things as I keep working on a design so here is a long overdue update. Glad to hear it is still moving forward! From your last post, it seems you have advanced quite a bit on all fronts :thu: Do you have any further updates? I'm kind of intrigued with your projec...

Home recording studio in the attic.

On the chimney there is an absorption panel hr. 50 mm That's a possibility, certainly. I would suggest using something much thicker than just 50mm on that chimney. With 50mm, you only get good absorption in the upper mid range and highs, practically nothing below about 1 kHz. In other words, then e...

Stuart's Rules for Soffits / Flush mounting speakers

Thanks, Glenn!

Note to everyone else: The abundant framing on the front baffles, especially around the speaker cutouts. There's a couple of reasons for that, but one of them is to add additional rigidity to the baffle. Simple rule for building soffits: Beef it up!

One other thing: There's a better way to look at impulse graphs when you are doing my string trick: Salem-CR-L--Impulse.png That's from one of your MDATS, for the left speaker. To get that, go to the "impulse" tab, set the graph Y-axis units to "%" instead of "dBFS", zo...

And a brief response from something you asked about a while back: Question: The spikes seen at 180 µs, to 1080µs on either side are traced to the desktop. Would I be correct assuming that the human ear cannot detect that short of a delay and I can disregard it? If my memory is correct, I thought I h...

Hey Ron. All I can say is: WOW! I'm impressed! Amazing progress there. Some really REALLY great workmanship, all over. Good planning, and good execution. :thu:

Where are you right now? Did you meet the impossible deadline? What still needs doing?

Setting up my control room for 5.1

The sub should go where it does the job right! In a CR, the sub has two jobs; 1) Provide the low end for the mix, and 2) Deal with some of the problematic acoustic issues, such as modes and SBIR. For #1 the sub should go somewhere close to the front wall, not centered, exact location found by testin...
