I have a basement room that is 17X31 feet. There is a fireplace on one short wall. There are windows and doors on both long walls. This leaves me an area 17X9 at the opposite end. Would I be better off placing my control desk in the middle of the 17 foot wall for symmetry and placing my drums in the middle of the room? I hate to do this as it takes up a lot of the room and would rather keep my drums as far away from the fireplace as possible.

The other option is to place a single dividing wall on the 17 foot wall making a 9 foot and an 8 foot cubby. I could then place my drums in the 9 foot cubby facing out into the room and my control desk in the other cubby. The desk would face the back wall and have two side walls and then an open back.

is the fireplace used? one option for the drums - put it on an isolation platform with furniture sliders. you can slide it around the room, perhaps keep the fireplace cold during recording sessions. then set up the CR desk on the short wall far away from the fireplace.

This is obviously a good idea, since if the fireplace is used, the fluctuation in temps won't be good for your kit, particularly if it's wrapped.

This is a great idea.

Glad you're keeping the wet bar in play. :D

All the best,

Paul
