Arek, is there a specific design you're using for your superchunks?

Just the usual stacked triangles in the corners. 24x24 with a ~33" diagonal across the corner. This is not the cheapest way, but it's the most effective from what I have found, and it's damn simple to build.

Hi
Looking great!

Out of interest were you able to lift the 500lbs wall section yourself or did it require assistance? I'm not asking to check how strong you are (!) more to see whether I'm going to be able to do the work I have planned in March on my own. My sections are smaller than 12' so will be lighter, but I am hoping to do it alone as current virus restrictions prohibit me asking friends over.

Cheers
Gareth

Haha I'm strong, but not that strong :) I have help. My brother in law has been helping with the build. We lifted the wall up a couple inches with a lever bar, and put blocks under. Then we were able to get a good grip and lift up. My wife shoved a sawhorse under to support so we could switch grip and lift all the way upright.

It's actually not that bad ... I could not do it myself, but 2 people was not bad. It was actually a lot harder to slide/move them into place once standing up so build them as close as you can to the spot where they will go. We ended up having to put plastic slider discs under the lower plate to be able to slide them in.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I need a plan to get some assistance then...

Yes, or be prepared to make an orthopedic surgeon's next vacation home payment.

If you are going to try it yourself, remember Peter Griffin's (misguided) advice: "Lift with your back and twist."

Bit of progress last few days!

Made a bunch of wall panels for the walls opposite the absorber wall:

And the first frame of 3 clouds. LED pots will be in the center of each:

Super chunks look great. What did you do to get such a nice clean front?

Thanks! It's just the fabric stretched over a wood frame. The side pieces are beveled at 45* (ran through a table saw) so they fit nicely against the walls.

So close I can taste the sweating! :D

Time for some room measurements to see where we're at. The room sounds pretty dead, so I might add more hard surfaces to liven it a bit, but testing first to get a baseline. And to see if there are any major issues ... unlikely I would be able to do anything about them, but we'll see!

That is very classy looking and all of us who are way behind you in progress are both pleased and jealous you have got this far. I hope the tests show that the room does indeed sound as good as it looks.

Absolutely, I hope so as well! I will definitely need some help interpreting the results of the tests, although ultimately, my ears will be the judge anyway, right? :)

That looks well smart. Magic to see the individuality in all these designs come to life.

That room is looking fantastic. I love the recessed lights in the clouds. It looks seamless.

How big is your space?

Thanks! The room (drywall to drywall) is 21'6" (625cm) x 12'3" (375cm) and 7'3" (219cm).

Working on the desk side now ... got the basic structure done and temporarily setup ... took some mid-progress measurements as well. Not horrible, a few issues that might be solvable. But music does sound pretty good in the space, definitely pretty controlled. Last big project is the door!
