The MD-11 aircraft is powered by three Pratt & Whitney PW4460/4462 turbofan engines. The engine is a two-spool, axial-flow turbofan engine of high compression and high bypass ratio. The engine has two multi-stage, turbine-driven compressors that utilize concentric shafts. The low-pressure N1 compressor consists of one fan stage and four compressor stages. It is driven by a four-stage low-pressure turbine. The high pressure N2 compressor has eleven-stages of compression. It is driven by a two high-pressure stage turbine.
